H1: About The AI Picker
We started The AI Picker because we were tired of AI tool “reviews” that read like they were written by the tool’s own marketing team.
You know the ones. They list every feature from the pricing page, declare the tool “great for beginners and professionals alike,” and slap an affiliate link at the bottom. No real opinion. No genuine analysis. No help.
We wanted something better — a site that does the deep research transparently, scores tools consistently, and recommends what we would actually recommend to a friend.
What We Actually Do
We research AI tools. For every tool we cover, we read the official documentation, gather user feedback across multiple independent communities, cross-check pricing and feature claims against source material, and compare the tool against the obvious alternatives in its category.
We then score each tool out of 100 across five weighted factors, publish the full breakdown (not just the overall number), and write the review with a clear recommendation about who should use the tool and who should not.
If a tool is worth paying for, we tell you why and for whom. If a tool is overpriced, underpowered, or simply not as good as the alternative, we tell you that too.
We do not claim to have hands-on tested every tool we cover. That is a deliberate choice. The AI Picker is a research-and-comparison site — our value is doing the research legwork so you can skip the evaluation phase and make a confident decision. When hands-on usage is part of a specific review, we note it explicitly. When it isn’t, we say so with research-based language.
How We Compare Tools Fairly
Every AI tool category has its own set of comparison data points — the specific capabilities that matter for that type of tool. An AI writing tool is compared on different criteria than an AI voice generator, because what matters is different.
This means our comparison tables show you what is actually relevant, not generic feature lists. The Category Leaderboards are living, ranked tables of every tool we have reviewed in a category, updated whenever a score changes. The Interactive Comparison Builder lets you pick 3-5 tools from the same category and see them side-by-side on the criteria that matter.
Everything we build on the site is designed around one goal: helping you make a confident purchase decision faster than you could by reading 10 marketing pages.
How We Make Money
We’re transparent about this: we earn a commission when you click one of our affiliate links and sign up for a tool. This costs you nothing extra — the price is the same whether you use our link or not.
But here’s what matters: we never recommend a tool because the commission is good. We recommend tools because they’re good. If a tool with a generous commission is worse than a tool with no commission at all, we recommend the better tool. Every time.
Midjourney is a current example — they have no affiliate program, yet we cover them because they are one of the best tools in their category. Our scoring does not care about commission structure.
You can read our full affiliate disclosure for the details, and our editorial standards for the complete list of rules we hold ourselves to.
Who We Are
The AI Picker is part of AI Digital Streams, an independent UK-based publisher. We are a small team — deliberately so. Keeping the team small means every review passes through editorial oversight before it is published. There are no shortcuts.
Founder and publisher: John Sadler. Editorial oversight: Every article is reviewed against our editorial standards before publish.
We disclose — because transparency is our differentiator — that AI tools are used throughout our research and drafting workflow. An editor reviews, fact-checks, and signs off every article before it goes live. We believe the editor-review step is the quality gate, not the draft stage. If you want the full detail of how this works, the editorial standards page documents it in detail.
What You Can Trust From Us
Every review on this site is produced to our published editorial standards. Specifically:
- The research is real and based on publicly available information we have verified.
- The score is a genuine assessment based on our weighted five-factor methodology, not a commercial judgment.
- The recommendation is what we would genuinely advise.
- The content is current or clearly marked with the date of the last update.
- We correct mistakes quickly and publicly when we make them.
We do not accept sponsored reviews. We do not let tool companies preview our articles before publication. We do not change our ratings because someone offered a better commission. If any of that changed, we would say so openly — but it will not change.
